SNM College Maliankara is located in Maliankara village having its vast population belonging to the socially and economically backward classes. The Village Adoption Programme, a heartfelt initiative undertaken by SNM College, Maliankara as part of its commitment to foster community development and sustainable growth, as the institution firmly believes in extending its educational prowess beyond the classroom walls to create a positive and lasting impact on the society. The programme was initiated as a proactive response to address multifaceted societal and environmental challenges while embracing the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth by the United Nations. The programme sought to promote sustainable development, inclusivity, and socio-economic progress within the adopted village, the Wards I and II of Vadakkekkara Grama panchayath.

Objectives:

• To foster United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the adopted village
• To collaborate with and support the adopted village to uplift its residents through education, healthcare, skill development, and overall well-being.
• To empower and equip the villagers to lead better lives and contribute meaningfully to society.
• To upbring the students by giving them a chance to experience the reality of the society
• To equip and familiarize the students and faculty with the socio-economic dimensions of the rural community and to make the students more socially responsible.
• To inculcate social responsibility among students.
• To create a culture of togetherness, inter connectedness among the students

SAAKALYA, a green initiative by S.N.M College, stands as a powerful endeavor to preserve our planet and protect the environment through education, research, community partnerships, and various other means. This program provides a special opportunity to integrate sustainable practices into the college community, inspiring and preparing students, faculty, and visitors to make a positive difference in the world. The college firmly believes in its “moral responsibility” to promote sustainable practices, recognizing that it plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of young adults who will carry the torch for environmental stewardship in the future. As environmental issues become increasingly complex and deeply rooted in our world, students armed with knowledge about their surroundings and the challenges they will face in the coming years become invaluable assets to society. Through SAAKALYA, S.N.M College not only strives to reinforce environmentally-friendly practices within its own campus but also ensures that its students are well-educated about sustainability topics and empowered to take meaningful actions to protect the environment for a greener and more sustainable future.
